Design Stage:
To improve the water distribution and wastewater collection infrastructure, WSSC Water Pipeline Design Division develops strategic plans for the repair, replacement, relocation, and protection of mains, laterals, manholes, and appurtenances (assets). The assets are in the public road right-of-way, in Environmental Sensitive Areas, and in easements.
A condition assessment of the infrastructure is conducted to determine the assets requiring rehabilitation. These assets are placed into a design with WSSC’s Project Managers and Consultants to develop construction plans, specifications, and contract documents.
Construction Stage:
Once the Design Stage is complete and the project is funded and approved for construction, WSSC water assigns a Contract Manager and one or more inspectors to oversee the construction performed by a construction contractor. Work often occurs in phases and contractors will be at various locations within a project throughout the construction period. WSSC uses letters and door hangers to provide specific information as to when there are impacts on specific streets throughout the project.
In the event of an emergency, WSSC may not be able to provide advance notice of water service interruptions.
Signage Notice:
(1) WSSC works to minimize impacts to your water service, however, there are occasions when it will be necessary to interrupt your service for up to eight (8) hours.
(2) There may be temporary changes to traffic patterns and/or parking restrictions. Any vehicles that have not been removed from the area (as denoted by “No Parking” signs) by the time the parking restrictions take effect will be towed to a nearby street at no cost to the owner.
(3) Directly impacted residents will receive 48-hour advanced notice prior to any water service interruptions or parking restrictions. Access to homes and residents will be maintained. In the event of an emergency, WSSC may not be able to provide advance notice of water service interruptions.

Inclement Weather:
No planned construction work or paving will occur in the case of inclement weather (rain or snow).
